#WhyCPA? Because CPA Is the Gold Standard

Three Letters That Say It All

Isn’t it remarkable how three letters like “CPA” can speak volumes about who you are and what you do? These three letters indicate that you are the gold standard for accounting professionals. You’ve met higher education requirements, passed a rigorous exam, and provide far more than just tax prep and number crunching.

The CPA Difference in Every Community

The CPA license carries meaningful value—not just for the profession but for the individuals and organizations that rely on accurate guidance and long‑term financial clarity. That’s why the South Carolina Association of CPAs created the #WhyCPA campaign: to educate South Carolina communities and beyond on who CPAs are, what they do, and why they matter.

What Is the #WhyCPA Campaign?

Through this ongoing public service initiative, the Association shares photos, videos, and social content that illustrate the real difference between a CPA and a non-certified accountant or general tax preparer.

Here are a few of our favorite #WhyCPA messages:

  • “If popping popcorn doesn’t make you a chef, adding numbers doesn’t make you a Certified Public Accountant. #WhyCPA”
  • “If your tax preparer’s office has a mascot, you probably didn’t hire a CPA. Learn the value of a CPA. #WhyCPA”
  • “Think outside the software. Hire a CPA. #WhyCPA”
  • “If you don’t trust Google for healthcare, don’t trust the internet for financial advice. Hire a CPA. #WhyCPA”

Why It Matters

This campaign helps your clients and your community understand the value you provide—not just during tax season, but year-round.

It helps distinguish CPAs from unlicensed preparers. It sparks curiosity in the public to ask better questions and make smarter financial decisions. And ultimately, it increases your visibility and helps grow your business.

“The #WhyCPA campaign embodies the very premise on which SC.CPA is based,” said SC.CPA CEO Chris Jenkins. “We exist for this very reason—to promote that critically significant CPA license across the state of South Carolina and to advocate for what you do.”
